The Grand Theater

Good

This was actually a great movie, perhaps even an excellent one, however on three points it crossed a line which made it look unneccesarily vulgar and distasteful. Here are those 3 points. First of all, and least important of the three, the scene where the good doctor stiches and fixes the bad guys broken nose, this was gross and had no point to it. We get it his nose is broke, move on with the story. 2nd The opening scene, we get it that he's a bad guy. When you killed the officers in the opening scene while freeing the bad guy we didn't need the scene where the officer bleeds on the picture of his wife and kids, and is then told he'd never see them again. It's totally unbelieveable that the guy was so evil he would take the time to do this, it crossed a line and made the movie unenjoyable. 3rd. The rape scene was unneccesary. To have her watch her friend die and herself get raped was enough, they didn't have to happen at the same time. This is not developing character or empathy it's just gross and vulgar for the sake of gross and vulgar, which is ok, but not in the context in which this movie presented itself. Take out these three thing and we've got a great show, these things really ruined it for me though. Also stop with all the closeups and the fast action scenes. Don't they get it IT'S A BIG SCREEN, the screen is bigger than my house I can't tell what's happening when you move that fast.

Machete

9-5-10 The Grand Theater Horrible...Great...Not Superior What can I say, it was as healthy as cotton candy. Was it trying to be a serious action flick? Sometimes. Was it a comedy? Maybe? Bad writing, dumb ending. Cool action scenes followed by ridiculous embarassing action scenes. When you add it all up what a horrible movie. You shouldn't go see it because it's so stupid...it's so dumb...it's cheap entertainment with it's decapitated heads, pretty women and ugly men both doing outlandish, illogical and implausable acts. So there, take that, it's a bad movie. By the way I liked it, but I shouldn't have. Do you want to go see it with me again? Machete Trailer

Inglorious Basterds

The Grand Theater 8/23/2009 Excellent This move was as good as I had hoped it would be. What made it good was what makes all good movies good, "Writing" Quinten Tarantino is one of the best writer/ directors around and Inglorious Baterds fits his style perfectly. This movie is not as good as Pulp Fiction, but it is most certainly in the same league. This movie takes it's time and isn't consumed with the violence, even though it is extremely violent. There are no weak (or short) scenes. The dialogue is carefully written and the character complex and interesting. The best performance is by Brad Pitt. If only this were a true story, things would have been different. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5sQhTVz5IjQ

The Karate Kid

6-28-2010 Countryside Cinema Great It would have been better if it wasn't a remake. However, Karate Kid has such a great fomula you didn't mind many things being the same as the original. In fact, I kind of got upset that it wasn't exactly like the original, only with different characters in a different setting. I though the main characters were too young. It's hard to relate to a love story with a 12 year old. Jaden Smith needs a new hair cut, he looks like a girl, no I mean he really looks like a girl. He needs also to stop acting in the same manner as his Dad. It just reinforces that he's too young to be an actor of his own making. Ok maybe I'm too picky, but it's just a thought. I thought Jackie Chan (who I'm not a big fan of) showed a great deal of emotion and acted very well, even if it was hard to understand him from time to time. Do not expect this to be as good as the original because it's not, however I think they got it right. Just like th
