The Grand Theater

Good

This was actually a great movie, perhaps even an excellent one, however on three points it crossed a line which made it look unneccesarily vulgar and distasteful. Here are those 3 points. First of all, and least important of the three, the scene where the good doctor stiches and fixes the bad guys broken nose, this was gross and had no point to it. We get it his nose is broke, move on with the story. 2nd The opening scene, we get it that he's a bad guy. When you killed the officers in the opening scene while freeing the bad guy we didn't need the scene where the officer bleeds on the picture of his wife and kids, and is then told he'd never see them again. It's totally unbelieveable that the guy was so evil he would take the time to do this, it crossed a line and made the movie unenjoyable. 3rd. The rape scene was unneccesary. To have her watch her friend die and herself get raped was enough, they didn't have to happen at the same time. This is not developing character or empathy it's just gross and vulgar for the sake of gross and vulgar, which is ok, but not in the context in which this movie presented itself. Take out these three thing and we've got a great show, these things really ruined it for me though. Also stop with all the closeups and the fast action scenes. Don't they get it IT'S A BIG SCREEN, the screen is bigger than my house I can't tell what's happening when you move that fast.

A Christmas Carol 3-D

11-8-2009 The Grand Theater Superior This was the scariest I've seen in a long time. That's saying a lot considering my list. There were times I was shaken, and this isn't an unfamiliar story. This was also a beautiful movie with amusement park like effects, especially with the 3-D, which by the way I highly reccomend. With the 3-D glasses you really notice the care and detail taken to truly make this an imaginative and engaging remake of the ultimate Christmas Story (Next to the Jesus Story of course.) Many are critical of this movie because of it's over use of special effects and I would agree with them if the story telling and acting weren't as superb as they were. Jim Carey (I'm not really a fan) was excellent in his portrayal of Scrooge and the Spirits of Christmas Past and Present. Each Spirit character including Jacob Marley was both endearing and terrifying. Exactly as their characters should be. The exception being the Spirit of Christmas Yet to Come, h...

Gladiator...I mean Robin Hood

5/16/2010 The Grand Theater Good I wonder what would happen if you were to watch Gladiator and Robin Hood at the same time. Now I don't know for sure but here's my guess. At exactly the same time you would have.... Big opening battle (Wow this is cool!) Blah-blah-blah-blah-plot-plot-plot-plot-plot Smaller but still cool battle. Blah-blah-blah-blah-develope the story, oh isn't that funny and clever... Another Cool battle scene Blah-blah-blah-blah- love-love-love-love Yeah kill that guy, I wish I could shoot an arrow like that. Blah-blah-blah-blah-oh that's why he's the way he is... Yes Big battle. The end. Let's get rid of the blah-blah-blah-blah and just give us 100 minutes of what we really want. Big Epice unrealistic battles! That's all I have to say about that... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KSqL9ygBCck

Green Book

Green Book AMC High Point 8 Superior This was a great movie. It made you laugh, it made you cry. It was a really interesting look at a topic that's been looked in to many times. Even though the theme was the same, this movie felt fresh and original. I can fully support this movie for Best Picture.
